Maybe Brian thinks if he spins hard enough, the thumbs down will reverse?

As of this post, the numbers are 415 ratings, 126 thumbs-up, 289 thumbs down. #FAIL

This is an open thread for the evening. We at Courage are fast preparing for tomorrow’s vote. See you in the morning -Adam

Brian Brown begins his latest email blast with the following line:

NOM’s new ad, “The Ironic Steve Jobs,” has been launched on YouTube–the great counterrevolution has begun!

Only problem for Brian? It’s the ad itself being countered in this supposed YouTube revolution, by a whopping 2-1 margin:

It’s a hit, alright. Another hit to NOM’s credibility.

Entry filed under: Community/Meta, NOM Exposed, Right-wing.

The 0.25 yard line Senate to likely consider cloture motion on repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” this morning

      126 for, 320 against

      Tee hee.

      • 10. Lux  |  December 17, 2010 at 4:31 pm

And you should see some of the 800+ comments raging on NOM. They can’t *all* be us, and this gives me hope.

        • 11. Lee  |  December 17, 2010 at 5:00 pm

          I KNOW! XD They’re fabulous.

Thumbs-down to the vid. I’d leave a comment but it says I need to update my Firefox, and as far as I know I’ve got the latest version. Hm…

        • 12. John  |  December 17, 2010 at 10:15 pm

I still laugh about them thinking that young people would give a $#@! about the Manhattan Declaration. Are they that isolated that they don’t realize that a long statement of doctrine written by a bunch of irrelevant old guys is in the seriously “uncool” category? I have a lot of hope if this is the best they can come up with to reach younger people

          • 13. Joe  |  December 18, 2010 at 6:31 am

Average kid looks at the Manhattan Declaration and thinks tl;dr

          • 14. Lee  |  December 18, 2010 at 9:18 pm

I’m about to turn 29 and I still say tl;dr.

  • 15. Chris in Lathrop  |  December 17, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Tryin’ to ‘thumbs down,’ but I’m still waiting for the “verify your email address” email from You Tube. :(

    • 16. Chris in Lathrop  |  December 17, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Ok, finally got to “thumbs down” and flag the video. Take that, NOMbies.

  • 17. Marlene  |  December 17, 2010 at 4:35 pm

As of 7:30pm EST, the count now stands at 128 likes, 326 dislikes!

I also flagged it as inappropriate as hate speech and deceptive.

There are so far seven pages of comments, too!

    • 18. Lee  |  December 18, 2010 at 9:19 pm

      Hilarious! And awesome. =D

  • 19. CaliGirl  |  December 17, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Hm. I tried to comment on the page, but I’m getting an error message. Problem on my end, or is it a case of NOM “first amendment hating” irony striking yet again?

    • 20. CaliGirl  |  December 17, 2010 at 4:53 pm

      nvm, it got through. :D

  • 21. JonT  |  December 17, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Should we make a bet on how long it takes them to delete all of the comments and disable voting?

That would be rich on a video page that complains about censorship. :)

  • 22. Ray in MA  |  December 17, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Since posting, the score is: 130 likes, 355 dislikes

    • 24. Kathleen  |  December 17, 2010 at 5:44 pm

      131 to 373.

  • 25. tess  |  December 17, 2010 at 5:40 pm

I’m not the biggest fan of Apple, their products, their constant re-issuing of products, etc. etc. but good on them for this!

  • 26. Ray in MA  |  December 17, 2010 at 5:44 pm

    Relaxed now?

How about a shot of adrenalin to wake you up?

  • 29. GraciesDaddy  |  December 17, 2010 at 6:06 pm

My comment on the vid: “Hey, NOM!! You’re 25 seconds short for the Two Minutes’ Hate!”

Probably will go right over their heads.

  • 30. Rightthingtodo TX  |  December 17, 2010 at 6:16 pm

someone smarter than me and with a stronger constitution (pun intended) than me please read this and respond.

Rob T – I’m looking in your direction

    • 31. Ann S.  |  December 17, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Full of ridiculous spin, such as the meme that the left wing controls the media and that the SPLC had no basis for calling out certain anti-equality groups, without bothering to address the specifics of their charges.

Also full of NOM-like arguments about the importance of bringing men and women together for procreation, and that we are “attacking religion” and “driving it underground”.

To sum up: ridiculous blather, we’ve heard it all before.

      • 32. elliom  |  December 18, 2010 at 7:46 am

        Ann S:

        I agree, same ol’ crap.

“We hate gay ppl, but don’t call use haters.”

    • 33. Sagesse  |  December 17, 2010 at 9:03 pm

I regret the passing of delightful and useful phrase… ‘the public square’. No decent, self respecting, other-person-respecting soul will ever feel comfortable using it again.

  • 34. Richard W. Fitch  |  December 17, 2010 at 7:17 pm

Currently 131 to 406. Where are all the gNOMbies????

  • 35. Vaati  |  December 17, 2010 at 7:18 pm

    That number jumped to over 404 dislikes the last time I looked. :}

  • 36. Ray in MA  |  December 17, 2010 at 7:20 pm

Something that I don’t think we’ve kept up on:

    Andrew Sullivan and the Hag:

Georgetown Catholic Family Conversation on LGBT Issues

    • 37. Ray in MA  |  December 17, 2010 at 7:28 pm

Andrew Sullivan implied that there are more divorces than there are gay people… so why doesn’t the Catholic church pursue that threat to marriage?

      • 38. Marlene  |  December 18, 2010 at 5:13 am

Probably because the Church demands a bribe from the couple in order to annul the marriage, Ray. Can’t stop *that* revenue stream, can they?

        • 39. Ray in MA  |  December 18, 2010 at 6:16 am

Yes, the Pope needs new shoes!

          • 40. Richard A. Jernigan  |  December 18, 2010 at 9:00 am

Then let her go to WalMart like all the real Catholics!

          • 41. Richard A. Jernigan  |  December 18, 2010 at 9:01 am

In fact, Little Miss Pope can find just the perfect high heeled winter boots to match her white robes for only $14.99 from now until the 24th at midnight.

  • 42. Richard A. Jernigan  |  December 17, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Isn’t it amazing that the very ones who are themselves censoring comments on their blog when those comments go against what they want on their property pull a BMW when another American exercises their own rights when it comes to their property. NOM won’t let anyone post comments on their blog (NOM property) that go against their ideology, yet they want to cry when Steve Jobs pulls an offensive, discriminatory application from the Apple online store (Apple’s property, ergo, Steve Jobs’ property). All I can say to NOM is you folks really need to grow up, put on your big girl panties, deal with it and GET OVER YOURSELVES! You are not the arbiters of what someone else can sell in their business. You want the Manhattan Declaration do badly, post it yourselves!

    • 43. Maggie4NoH8  |  December 20, 2010 at 11:20 am

yes it is amazing! I thought I was the only one that couldn’t get past the “your comment is awaiting moderation” on their blog!

Glad to see I am in GOOD company!

  • 44. Christian  |  December 17, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Not sure if this has been posted in another thread today, but apparently Republicans in Iowa are targeting the remaining four State Supreme Court Justices:

    • 45. Ann S.  |  December 17, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Thanks for pointing that out. I think that’s disgusting of them.

      • 46. Gregory in Salt Lake City  |  December 17, 2010 at 9:09 pm

    • 47. Sagesse  |  December 17, 2010 at 9:14 pm

“According to the AP, it would take just a majority vote in the Republican-led state legislature to approve impeachment, but a two-thirds vote in the state Senate, which is controlled by Democrats.”

Like the marriage amendment, this is an uphill challenge in Iowa… thank goodness.

      • 48. Ann S.  |  December 17, 2010 at 9:30 pm

        Good to know, thanks.

  • 49. Ray in MA  |  December 17, 2010 at 8:58 pm

Mag;s is a very wealthy girl!!!

Gallagher serves as president of the “Institute for Marriage and Public Policy”, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making Gay people’s lives miserable. When I said nonprofit, I meant Maggie personally keeps 42% of the donations for her salary.

    Senate Vote tomorrow: 9a Easter?

  • 51. Ray in MA  |  December 17, 2010 at 9:13 pm

    430 / 133

  • 52. John  |  December 17, 2010 at 9:38 pm

What idiots. These are the first people who shout out, “PEOPLE SHOULDN’T BE FORCED TO GIVE UP THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS AND SERVE PEOPLE WHO HAVE LIFESTYLES THEY DISAGREE WITH!” They usually are talking about the “right” of a “Christian” business to deny services to a gay, lesbian, trans, or other “sinner”.

So when someone denies service to the false “Christians?” Suddenly it’s discrimination. As a Christian, NOM’s hypocracy sickens me.

  • 53. Ed  |  December 17, 2010 at 10:57 pm

134 to 447. Maggie, how many of those are your employees?

    • 54. Chris in Lathrop  |  December 18, 2010 at 2:59 am

I bet she doesn’t keep many employees to keep her personal “non-profit” margin up.

  • 55. Ed  |  December 17, 2010 at 11:14 pm

What if this *was* steve jobs plan? Let the app in, knowing full well that ppl would bitch, then remove it, garnering the admiration of people who support equality. Not only is it a brilliant marketing move (lots of young people love their apple products)….it is also the morally correct thing to support equality.

  • 56. Erica  |  December 18, 2010 at 6:48 am

I emailed Steve Jobs based on the link Prop 8 Trial Tracker sent out and told him he rocked for standing up against hate. Go Steve.

  • 57. Misken  |  December 18, 2010 at 11:51 pm

Aren’t all of NOM’s videos like this? I have yet to see one with even a chance of having a positive margin.

Brian needs to queue up the old “Dead or Alive” single from the 80’s…
